Frequently Asked Questions
When should I begin using ScarAway?
Begin using ScarAway as soon as the wound has fully closed (e.g. skin is healed and there is no oozing, crusting or irritation in the area). Treatment with ScarAway for post-surgical scars may typically begin approximately 1-2 weeks after stitches or staples are removed or when cleared by your physician or surgeon for use.
For existing scars, you may begin using ScarAway immediately, provided your skin is intact and no wounds or irritation are present.
Can I use ScarAway on any part of my body?
Yes, when used as directed, ScarAway can be used on any part of the body, avoiding mucous membranes, open wounds, and direct contact with eyes. ScarAway Gel or Spray are ideal for exposed or hard-to-treat areas such as face, ears, neck, scalp, arms, hands, and joint areas. Once dry, ScarAway Gel or Spray can also be worn under makeup or sunscreen.
How long will it take before I notice improvement?
Treatment duration will vary from person to person and from scar to scar, depending on many factors. Recommended minimum treatment time is approximately 60-90 days. Larger and older scars may take longer, therefore continued use is recommended if the scar continues to improve after the initial 90 days. Individual results will vary.
Can I use ScarAway on an old scar?
Yes. ScarAway is effective on scars that are years old, as well as scars that are more recent. ScarAway’s advanced silicone technology works to soften, fade, flatten and shrink the scar so that it appears closer to your skin’s natural color and texture
What types of scars does ScarAway work on?
ScarAway works to diminish the appearance of hypertrophic scars and keloids, which have a raised and/or discolored appearance. These types of scars may result from surgery, injury, burns, acne, insect bites, C-sections and more. ScarAway also reduces redness, itching and discomfort associated with scars.
How long do I need to use ScarAway?
Treatment duration will vary from person to person and from scar to scar, depending on many factors. IMPORTANT: Recommended minimum treatment time is 60-90 days. It may take longer than 90 days for older and larger scars to achieve full benefit. Extended use is recommended if continued improvement is seen. Individual results will vary.
Is ScarAway safe?
Yes. ScarAway products are FDA Class-1 medical devices for the treatment and reduction of scars.
Does ScarAway have any side effects?
As with any topical material applied directly to the skin’s surface, some type of reaction (usually a sweat rash) is possible. In the unlikely event you have a reaction, stop using ScarAway. After your skin has returned to normal, you may reapply ScarAway for short periods and gradually increase the hours of usage. Monitor the scar area for signs of reaction. Continue to increase the wearing time until a comfortable maximum has been reached. If you continue to have a problem, discontinue use and consult your physician.
ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets FAQs
How do ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets work?
ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets use Advanced Silicone Technology, a specially formulated silicone that mimics the natural barrier function of healthy skin, diminishing scars both old and new, and restoring skin to a more natural texture and color. Research suggests that silicone acts to hydrate scar tissue, which in turn works to soften the scar, reducing its development and causing it to fade. ScarAway helps alleviate the itching and discomfort that often accompany scars.
Can ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets be used on scars of different sizes and shapes?
Yes, ScarAway is available in two convenient sizes (1.5″ x 3″ and 1.5″ x 7″) to treat scars of various shapes and sizes. ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets may be trimmed for smaller scars or worn side-by-side for larger scars. The sheets should extend beyond the scar area on all sides by at least 1/2.”
How long should I wear each ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheet?
Each ScarAway Reusable Silicone Scar Sheet should be worn for a minimum of 12 and up to 23 hours per day, provided it is removed and the scar area and sheet are washed daily. The longer the silicone is in contact with your skin, the faster you may see results. Each sheet is washable and durable for up to 7-10 days of use.
Each ScarAway Clear Silicone Scar Sheet lasts up to 10 days. There is no need to remove the sheet for cleaning. When applying, firmly adhere all edges of the sheet to the skin and do not remove the sheet until ready to discard. This will help in maintaining adhesiveness. When the sheet loses stickiness discard and replace with a new sheet. The longer the silicone is in contact with your skin, the faster you may see results.
If desired, use ScarAway Silicone Scar Gel when not wearing your sheet, but do not use both of these together at the same time.
Can I wear ScarAway Silicone Scar Sheets while exercising or bathing
ScarAway Clear Silicone Scar Sheets are water-resistant and will remain in place during short-term exposure to water, such as showering. Do not expose to water for prolonged periods, such as swimming or bathing.
It is not ideal to use ScarAway Reusable Silicone Scar Sheets during exercise or bathing, as perspiration and many soaps, shampoos, etc. may interfere with adhesion. It is recommended that the sheets be removed and reapplied to clean, dry skin following these activities.
